An FCDP award that provides teaching relief does not relieve the awardee of other department responsibilities and university service. The FCDP is an in-residence program, and the award of an FCDP grant does not confer a leave of absence. Applicants are advised to obtain approval from their department chairs and deans for absences due to FCDP-related research conducted away from campus.
The awardee:
All awardees are required to provide a detailed report on how funds were expended and how the award assisted the recipient in achieving the goals outlined in the proposal (such as obtaining grant funding, completing research, and/or publication of research). The report can be submitted by using the link above.
Any equipment purchased with a Faculty Career Development Program award becomes the property of the University upon acquisition and reverts to the University upon completion of the project for which the funds were awarded.
All expenditures are subject to applicable University regulations.
Awards must be used during the assigned academic year.
All eligible faculty were encouraged to apply. The Faculty Career Development Program did not consider race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories as part of the application and selection process.
An applicant provided the following:
Applicants may request funding for release from the teaching of one to two courses to allow time to concentrate their efforts on research or creative activities. The course relief rate to be applied in AY 2025-2026 is ~$9,500 per course (for a maximum of $19,000* for two courses). This is the rate established by the Executive Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs.
Applicants in the Health Sciences may request release time from clinical duties, and the amount of funding will be comparable to that for course relief on the General Campus, up to a maximum of $19,000*. The program may also provide support for supplies and equipment, salary for an assistant, summer research, travel expenses related to a project, etc. The awards are subject to the availability of funds.
*Note that the actual amount of the award will depend on the number of applications, the number of awards granted, and the merit of the proposal. Applicants should expect that most awards will be equivalent to a one-course relief.
This program is closed. A similar program may be launched in the future.
The Associate Professor Development Seminar was started in late 2019 to aid new Associate Professors and Associate Teaching Professors with the transition to a tenured faculty role and it's new set of challenges. This program was put together in recognition that the professional success of faculty hinges not only upon achievement in research and teaching, but also on a faculty member’s ability to grow personally and to achieve a satisfying balance between the many roles and responsibilities - as leader, teacher, mentor, advisor, colleague, and more - of faculty. This was a development opportunity designed for newly tenured associate professors and associate teaching professors who have achieved security of employment as one way to support our faculty in achieving long-term professional success. This program was ended due to the Covid-19 pandemic in mid March of 2020.
This program closed to new applications on February 14, 2023. All funding for accepted applications concluded on June 30, 2025.
This temporary program was announced by Executive Vice Chancellor Elizabeth Simmons and Chancellor Pradeep Khosla to help mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on the scholarly trajectory of faculty who were at the Assistant Professor or Assistant Teaching Professor rank during academic years 20-21 and/or 21-22. Eligible faculty could apply for teaching relief to help them fully reengage with their research and creative activities.
Departments of accepted recipients were reimbursed for course teaching relief, to be used between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2025.
Q. Did this program change the timeline to tenure?
No. Faculty still progress towards tenure at the normal rate.
Q. How does taking CCSP impact my review?
Similar to ASMD, CCMD, and other programs that provide course relief, this program reflected an approved teaching load modification and your review will not be negatively impacted by taking advantage of CCSP. However, pre-tenured and pre-security of employment faculty also must establish a teaching portfolio that provides “clearly demonstrated evidence of high quality teaching.”
Q. What were the program terms?
Q. Who was eligible?
Eligible faculty were Assistant Professors (LRF) and Assistant Teaching Professors (LPSOE) who were Pre-tenure, Pre-Security of employment in the 2020-2021 and/or 2021-2022 academic years.
