Faculty Career Development Program

2026-2027 FCDP Information

We are excited to announce the re-launch of the Faculty Career Development Program (FCDP) for the 2026-2027 academic year. After a pause due to budget constraints, we are pleased to offer this vital support to our faculty as part of our ongoing commitment to faculty advancement.

About FCDP

The FCDP provides support to current UC San Diego junior faculty to strengthen their research or creative activities and support the prospect of their successful advancement to Associate Professor (with tenure or security of employment).

For this cycle, we are able to offer up to 15 awards, each valued at $12,500.

Eligibility

The FCDP is open to all Assistant Professors with Academic Senate membership regardless of race, religion, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin:

  • Ladder-Rank,
  • In Residence,
  • Teaching Professor
  • Clinical X series

Applicants must have held one of the named series by January 1, 2026, and must be at the Assistant Professor rank at the time the award is utilized.

This program especially recognizes and rewards faculty who promote diversity and equal opportunity alongside their academic achievements.

Award Administration:

Award amounts are based on rates established by the Executive Vice Chancellor, Academic Affairs and subject to available funding. Each FCDP award may provide resources valued up to $12,500 for project-related expenses, such as teaching course relief (or clinical release time in Health Sciences) to focus on research or creative activities, equipment or supplies, assistant salaries, travel, or summer research support.

An FCDP award granting teaching relief does not exempt recipients from other departmental responsibilities or university service.

The FCDP is an in-residence program and does not constitute a leave of absence. Applicants planning FCDP-supported research off campus should obtain approval from their department chairs and deans.

Selection Criteria:

Submissions are evaluated for the merit of their project proposal. The following factors are also considered as part of the applicant review process:

  • Contributions to campus principles of community and equal opportunity efforts (e.g. public service, student mentoring, curriculum development, diversity-related research, etc.).
  • Obstacles hindering research or creative activities, such as insufficient external funding.
  • Prior FCDP awards (preference is given to first-time applicants).
  • The expected impact of the award on the applicant’s research or creative activities and advancement potential.

Application Deadline:

Applicants must submit their portion by November 30, 2026:  

Department Chairs or Division Cheifs must submit their  and chair recommendation, must be completed by December 13, 2026.

Please submit your proposal well in advance to allow time for departmental review. 

Review of Applications:

Completed proposals will be reviewed by the Academic Senate Committee on Diversity and Equity, with recommendations submitted to the Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor-Academic Affairs. Applicants will be notified of the results in February 2026. 

Review of Applications:

Awards must be used during the academic year July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2028.
